      Hi,

I need some help with updating my theme. I’m not sure what is the best practice for updating the theme?

I asked to change the search function before and you recommended I swapped to the Child theme.

The child theme is now active on my site. However, I have made quite a few changes to some of the code. I have removed the menu and replaced it with another plugin and made quite a few css changes etc.

How do I update the theme without overwriting all of the information?

I have the Gecko Child theme as active and the Gecko theme installed but not active on my site.

      Hi Harry,

It won’t let me update, I have followed your instructions but get the following message:

      Unpacking the package…

      Installing the theme…

      Destination folder already exists. /home2/yaqtdbmy/public_html/wp-content/themes/gecko/

      Theme installation failed.

      Hi,

If you manual update by install new package you have to go to Appearance > Themes active other theme and delete gecko and install new gecko after that active Gecko-child.

      Kind regards

So don’t delete Gecko Child theme? Just activate a random different theme? Delete the Gecko theme and reinstall Gecko, then reactivate the Gecko Child theme?

Yes, don’t delete gecko-child because it contain your code. If you delete it your code will be remove. Just active random theme, delete gecko and install new package of gecko and active gecko-child.

I recommend use plugin Envato Market to update that will easy for you in next time.

      Kind regards

I’ve done that now but it’s lost all of the sidebar content within the store? I’ve tried to reassign them within the customize page but they won’t display?
