Theme Update without Losing Customization

Hi!

I just installed the Envato Toolkit to automatically update the Gecko theme (the forum article for that was very helpful, so thank you!).

The plugin warned me that any customizations I’ve made will be lost when I update the theme. Is there any way to avoid this? Do I need to create a child theme (and do you have any tips for that?).

Hi,

we inclued gecko-child in package you download from Themeforest so you can use this.

If you only add code in Theme Option and don’t touch any code in theme > gecko you can update theme without losing your customize

Yes, if you have only added custom css in the “Theme Options” section and have only used the available tools in “Theme Options” and “Customize” (under “Appearance”), you won’t lose any of your custom settings
