  I have installed the theme, installed and activated all necessary plugins but when I “install sample data” it works except none of the demo images show up, besides the footer image and instagram feed. Any idea why this would be?

  As your screen shot. You’re using gecko theme. After install sample data all images will be replace by place holder image because the copyright and license of image.
