  Is it possible to use a homepage layout without importing sample data? I already made the mistake once and had to restore the whole site. The store owner doesn’t want me touching the data, so I really need to be able to just use the homepage layout. Thank you!

  After that extract and import in Tools > Import > WordPress Import.
