1. You can change setting in WooCommere > Settings > Products > Display follow the screenshot http://take.ms/FzcxW to display subcategories

2. And on config of Category when you create new or edit. Select display type as Default  http://take.ms/nKm6A

To show the subcategories in specific category, please navigate to Products / Categories, mouse hover to category which you want to change and click “Edit” after that, change parameter of “Display type”
